Old Montreal is the historic area of the city, which is located southeast of downtown. It has multiple interesting attractions, such as the Old Port, the Montreal Science Centre, the Notre-Dame de Montreal Basilica, and the Montreal City Hall.

The architecture and cobble streets have been preserved by both non-governmental and governmental group to be able to keep the historic background alive. The non-governmental groups include Save Montreal, founded in 1974 by Michael Fish, and Heritage Montreal, founded in 1976 by Phyllis Lambert. The government has also played its part by creating a Law to preserve Old Montreal. This Law includes no defacing the building, and if new buildings are added, they must have the same European style as the original ones.

Old Montreal is a great place for simple family outings. It’s a nice place to simply walk or bike around. Little stores are located everywhere with an easy access. From Native handcrafted items to small bakeries, there’s a large variety of shops you can visit. There are also multiple art and photography exhibits that you can visit and enjoy the beauty of art.
