The museum’s mission is to keep Montreal’s archaeological remains protected and the historical heritage alive. The museum also has exhibitions showcasing the archaeological remains and interesting facts about Montreal’s history. The archaeological sites have produced one of Canada’s largest archaeological collections.

Along with its 4 permanent exhibitions, the Museum has welcomed over 30 temporary exhibitions that are similar to the local and international archaeology, history, culture, and multiculturalism. These exhibitions are perfect for showing different aspects of archaeology and history. The museum holds many popular cultural activities for the public, from musical performances to theatre, as well as demonstrations, which includes lectures, and debates.

The 4 permanent exhibitions in the Museums are:

  • Where Montréal Was Born: Visitors go down and visit the archaeological site, Montreal's birthplace.
  • Multimedia Show: Take a trip to the past and watch a film about Montreal's story.
  • Montréal's Love Stories: Explore this fascinating exhibition and let the love show you its way.
  • The Youville Pumping Station: Visit Montreal's first wastewater pumping station powered by electricity.
